OSKOP is setting a new industry standard for safer, more sustainable school and public building construction in the UK and OSG Architecture is proud to be involved in its development
Last year, OSKOP won the Product Innovation category at the Structural Timber Awards, and OSG Architecture is proud to have played a key role in the success of this pioneering system. As an active collaborator in its development, we are thrilled to see the impact OSKOP is making in the construction of modern, sustainable public buildings and schools.
What is OSKOP?
OSKOP, or Open Source Kit of Parts, is an innovative construction system that uses open-source data to facilitate the creation of public buildings and schools. Developed through collaboration between architects, contractors, and manufacturers, OSKOP provides a cost-driven, compliant, and flexible approach to Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
OSG Architecture, alongside other key industry partners, has been actively engaged in the development of this platform-based system. The recognition of OSKOP at the Structural Timber Awards further solidifies its role in revolutionising the way we approach construction. As a key contributor to the development of OSKOP, OSG Architecture, along with other contributors, was honoured with a personal award acknowledging our efforts in bringing this pioneering system to fruition.
Ensuring Compliance, Sustainability, and Market Competitiveness
As the construction industry increasingly embraces MMC, OSKOP’s open-source methodology ensures that new builds meet the highest standards in compliance, sustainability, and supply chain accessibility. The system is designed to integrate with traditional procurement models while providing vital data and resources to local panel manufacturers, allowing them to compete in an evolving marketplace.
Key Benefits of OSKOP:
- Regulatory Compliance: OSKOP ensures adherence to industry codes and regulations, offering full transparency in component testing. This reduces insurance risks and aligns with evolving construction frameworks.
- Sustainability & Circular Economy Principles: The system supports prefabricated components, reducing construction waste and improving carbon footprint management. Materials are selected for recyclability, deconstruction, and reuse.
- Reduced Embodied Carbon: The LETI Climate Emergency Design Guide identifies that 30% of a new school’s embodied carbon impact comes from its superstructure. OSKOP has successfully reduced this impact by more than half in recent projects—with no cost-uplift.
- Increased Supply Chain Competitiveness: By providing open-source access to compliance testing and material data, OSKOP empowers regional manufacturers and suppliers, allowing for informed material selection, enabling greater flexibility and collaboration in the supply chain.
OSKOP is setting a new industry standard for safer, more sustainable school and public building construction in the UK. OSG Architecture continues to contribute to the development of OSKOP, refining and expanding the system, alongside other industry professionals.
